Lake Garfield 2025 Late-Season Aquatic Plant Survey Report
At the request of the Town of Monterey, Applied Watershed Sciences LLC performed a late-season aquatic plant survey of Lake Garfield on October 27, 2025. The goals of the survey were to assess post-DASH (Diver-Assisted Suction Harvesting) conditions of the invasive Eurasian watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum) and to evaluate overall plant coverage and density at Lake Garfield. The survey was performed several days after the DASH crew finished harvesting various deep-water Eurasian milfoil beds in the large basin. Survey methods employed a combination of visual, SONAR, and raking to determine Eurasian water milfoil (EWM) presence and relative density coverages throughout the lake's littoral zone. Notes on dominant native species were also recorded, but the survey was primarily designed as a comprehensive census of the invasive EWM population.
The October 2025 survey found extensive invasive EWM compared to previous fall surveys.
