Lake Garfield Working Group October Meeting

At the October meeting of the lake Garfield Working Group (LGWG) it was reported that two boats and crews from the Connecticut-based New England Aquatics spent ten days removing invasive milfoil from the densest patches surveyed, resulting in twelve hundred netted bags of milfoil. These were transported to the Gould Farm composting site which, incidentally, supplies the town transfer station with garden-ready compost for residents use. While the efficacy of this diver assisted suction harvesting (DASH) is subject to divergent opinions, those studying these efforts throughout the country are convinced that it is analogous to the efforts and results of any gardener dealing with the vagaries of plant life and weather. Detailed reports on the progress of the work as well as the lake scientist report of lake conditions are pending.
